My Sweet Little G,
Today is your 5 month birthday and I can hardly believe it's been 5 months. On the one hand time has flown by and I feel like every time I look at you you've grown a little more, but on the other hand I feel like we have had you forever. It is so weird to think of our life before you were in it. Every day I feel so blessed and grateful to be your mom and get to spend my days with you! You are such a sweet little boy. You're smiley and happy most of the time and bring me such joy. Tonight we were riding in the car and you were fussy and tired so I was in the backseat with you while daddy was driving and after I gave you your pacifier you reached out and grabbed onto my hand. Someday I'm sure you will read this and make fun of your mommy but it almost made me cry. I love sweet moments like that and I am constantly in awe of how tiny you are and how you can do so many things. Your hands are so tiny, but they work so well. You giggle and laugh and have such personality. I love you so much my sweet little boy and I'm so grateful to have you in my life and get to spend each day with you. I am so grateful for the opportunity to keep you forever. I want to cry and smile with each new thing you learn because I'm so proud of you and then I want to slow things down and relive them over and over again because I know I will never get these moments again.
I love you Sweetpea

little things...
I have been severely lacking in my blogging lately. I swear, the moment I start to feel like I'm getting my life under control everything gets turned upside down. Oh well, such is life I suppose. This weekend was a breath of fresh air for me. We finally got to the beach here in NC! Scottie took Saturday off and the 3 of us spent the day together. It was G's first time to check out the ocean and he was so much fun. The wind would blow in his face and he would just laugh and grin ear to ear. Then we put his little toes in the water which was unbelievably warm and he seemed to like that ok but the sand was kindof sharp-more like broken up seashells than soft sand and he wasn't too keen on that but overall it was a huge success. It was gorgeous and a wonderful day for us all. We are so ready to have Scottie back a little more and hopefully that will be soon. He has been working 2 hours away and often doesn't get home until midnight or so which gets old fast! However, this job always helps us be more appreciative of regular things in life so I thought I would list several as part of today's post:
~Our microwave- having to cook exactly the right amount every night so there are no left overs but yet there is enough to eat. Oh boy...
~Being able to take advantage of great deals on things we need- I have found some great deals on things we know we will be buying for our little man in the very near future but if they won't fit in our car I have to reluctantly pass them up.
~Seeing my hubby- Enough said.
~G seeing his daddy- Again...enough said.
~Having all of my clothes- we had only planned to work for 6 weeks this summer so I only packed a few things (I also hadn't lost much of the baby weight at the time and thankfully am smaller now)
~Belts- They have saved me this summer since the clothes I brought aren't quite fitting anymore- HOORAY!
~Real plates cups and silverware- Plastic gets old quick although I'm grateful to have them!
~Ceiling lights in every room- Whoever designed our apartment decided they are unnecessary and that a lamp in each room was sufficient...really???
~GPS- Absolute lifesaver. If someone said I could either have my GPS or food it would be a seriously tough decision!
~Our bed- I think chiropractors designed this bed we're sleeping on in order to drum up more business!
~Refrigerator and stove- When we first got here we lived in a hotel for a while and I'm so grateful to be able to make and store food now! It was a long week or two without that.
~Good water- ours here leaves your hair feeling all nasty and greasy and gross no matter what you do. At first I didn't realize and would shampoo several times trying to fix it, until Scottie mentioned the same thing. Bleh!
~Toothbrushes- okay, I'm just always thankful for those.
~My little man- happy or grumpy I'm always grateful to have him! :)
~Job- times are tough and even though this is a really tough job, we are so grateful to have it.
~Godiva cheesecake- this is a love/hate relationship. Our company took us out to the cheesecake factory and we tried this and I'm pretty sure it is heaven on a plate- however my skinny jeans disagree.
~My handsome man- I'm the luckiest girl in the world.
~My friends and family- what would I do without them
~Tillamook Cheese- it's our favorite and they don't sell it here. We almost cried.
What about you? What's a random something you're grateful for today?

4 years? Seriously? That was fast!
Dear Scottie,
I can't believe it's been 4 years since you got stuck with me! ;) This weekend was the best I've had in such a long time with all the fun and celebrating going on. I mean I got a whole 4 days with both of my boys having a great time. What could be better? I LOVE going to zoos with you and it was so fun getting another one under our belt and yes, I am still planning to buy a zoo so I can have my own pet giraffe, elephant and polar bear. Get excited. And having the largest zoo in the US here in North Carolina was a great first one for G to visit. He was a sport and I'm pretty sure the little portable fan helped with that. I'm pretty sure he loved the parts of it he got to see but I can't wait to take him to more as he gets older. You're such a great daddy and I love watching you with our little man. Thanks for 4 amazing years and countless laughs along the way. I can't wait for the many years, laughs, and zoos to come.
I love you

you are one loved little boy
Dear G,
I feel like every time i turn around you're learning something new! Just this morning your daddy and I were talking about how much joy you have brought us already. You just started grabbing at things and you love kicking at things too. You also just started doing this screeching thing I'm not terribly fond of- hopefully you outgrow that one soon! Every morning I wake up to your squalks and look over the side of the bed at you sitting in your swing and the minute you see me you give me the sweetest grin I've ever seen. What better way to be greeted in the morning? You are such a sweet little boy. You love when we brush a blanket over your face- which usually inspires smiles and laughter all around! The bird song "way up in the sky" is a hit as well as the hokie pokie as i get you in your pajamas. You love the "shake it all about".
Basically, you are one cute and loved little boy.
Love you son!

Sometimes the 3rd time isn't the charm.
Dear Scottie,
This morning, as soon as you got into the shower, I ran and got a cup which I filled with ice water (yes, I did even put ice from the freezer in it) and ran into the bathroom to dump it on you. However, when I got in there I realized there were 2 problems; #1- I was barely tall enough to reach over the shower curtain to dump it on you so you would probably see it coming, #2-our apartment has a big Roman tub and I can't see through our shower curtain to see where you were in the tub. While a bit annoying, these obstacles didn't deter me and I dumped the cup of water and hoped for the best. Well, I missed and you only got a little on your shoulder. On to attempt #2. I ran back into the kitchen and grabbed our smallest mixing bowl and filled it up. SPLASH...nothin. You saw it coming and jumped out of the way. I had had enough of your funny business and was quickly on to attempt #3 (I couldn't be deterred) which meant bringing out the biggest mixing bowl we had. Nope, no luck there either-but you did manage to reach a hand out of the shower and smear soap on my face. That was it! On my trip back to the kitchen I had the thought of all thoughts-the idea of all ideas! Perfect! And just in time since you were about done with your shower. This time you heard me coming and just as you pulled back the shower curtain trying to scare me I squirted the ice cold water bottle from the fridge all over you! You jumped and I laughed...then ran! :) Then once I knew you weren't chasing me I snuck back to the bathroom and and said...truce? :) And you laughed. Then I reminded you about the soap and you agreed. However, I'm smart enough to know I should probably be watching my back for a while because this fun little prank war we have going on could start back up at any moment.
The moral of the story? Sometimes the 3rd time isn't the charm- so just keep at it! :)

Apparently you missed the memo
Dear G,
Apparently you missed the memo that I'm the one in charge around here...or maybe the problem is that all the so-called experts who tell me all the things I have to do to create "perfect behavior" from my nearly 3 month old have never had a child who inherited my "fighter" genes...or maybe they've never been around children at all? Whatever the case may be, after numerous attempts to get you to take a nap and way more crying than I was hoping for (since you were so tired and fighting it so hard) I caved. You have now been sleeping in my arms for over 2 hours. Yes I absolutely love holding you but I'm completely immobile and have been thirsty for the entire 2+ hours. I'm also convinced I'm going to get a cramp in my arm at any moment. Not to mention all the things I had planned to get done while you slept. And years from now when I read this I'm sure I won't believe I let myself do this but I really missed my happy little boy and was sick of fighting with you and you being so grumpy and mad. So, here I sit, chicken pecking words on the keyboard and hoping that when you wake up you will be much more like the happy baby boy I love so much so we can play.
I love you son- even when you're Grouchy McGee

We've had a bit of a rough morning. You didn't want me to work out today and fought me the whole time. Then REALLY fought me at nap time. Thankfully you're now sound asleep and hopefully going to stay asleep long enough for me to shower and get ready so then we can go out for an adventure. Please cooperate and I promise it will be fun!

Fish, BBQ, Sunshine & You
Dear Scottie,
Summer and I have developed a love/hate relationship. I've always loved the summer- sunshine, swimming, snowcones, catching bigger fish than you, BBQ's- what's not to love? But now that we work in summer sales my summers consist a lot of waiting for you to come home for us to play and far less catching bigger fish than you than I prefer. ;) However, we love the jobs and the chance to move to new places. On the other hand we don't see too much of these new places so that's a bit of a downer. But most of all, these summers are lacking in the thing I enjoy the most- doing fun things with you!!! SO, here's hoping that we can squeeze in enough fun to get me through til the fall where you'll have more time with me than you can handle (I hope).
I love you Sparky and thanks for working so hard.

Nap time?...what's that???
Little man,
I spend the majority of each day trying to get you to actually take a nap longer than 10 minutes. Please let me know what I'm doing wrong here because it's not working and that doesn't leave much time for me to get anything else done...or even catch my breath.
Hopefully I'll figure it out soon.

the 3....?
Dear G,
Oh what a funny (and fun) little boy you are. You have flown 4 times in your less than 3 months of life and have done very well each time. We also just got back from our long drive from Utah to North Carolina and you were a good sport on the 4 day trek. You had bouts of crying but usually just when you were really tired and so done with your car seat so I can't blame you a bit. You like for me to sing songs to you- especially when there are hand motions. And I don't care what people say, I know you can at least understand some things I say to you because if you're crying and I ask you if you want to sing a song and tell you that we can't sing a song until you're ready to be quiet, you usually get quiet and open your mouth for your pacifier (I know, getting rid of your pacifier has been put on hold for now). Then you sit quietly while I sing you a song. It's adorable I have to say. Or if you keep crying I say, "OK, you let me know when you're ready to sing a song" and usually a few seconds later you open your mouth for your pacifier and ready for me to sing. You also really like the itsy bitsy spider because of the rain hand motions. So far that one's your favorite with patty cake following closely behind.
You are such a sweet little boy and I have such a great time hanging out with you. When you're grouchy I can pretty much bank on it being because you're tired and need a nap. You love hanging with your daddy too. You're so strong and getting stronger by the day. You like to sit up and check things out and you have amazing control of your feet. It's pretty funny- you'll kick at toys to make them swing or make noises. You love going in the stroller as long as it's moving. When it's not you just want out! You really like it when I go running with you in the stroller so I can't wait for us to get our BOB stroller so I can actually take it out on good runs and it won't be bouncy and I won't be so worried. I'm so grateful to be your mommy and oh the adventures we're going to have- the 3 musketeers! ;) ...or is it the 3 stooges? I can never keep it strait!

are you sure teeth are necessary???
I'm pretty sure "teething" has officially commenced. My poor little guy has been so grouchy and inconsolable for the past few days. Poor little guy...and his poor mama since daddy has been working a ton. So last night we went out and bought him some teething toys as well as one entertaining and learning toy in the form of a little stuffed animal that jingles that you strap to their wrist or ankle. So far he's loved that! I strapped one to his wrist this morning and after a few minutes he started shaking his little fist all over the place! It was so fun and cute and helps him learn cause and affect. Anyway, back to the teething. He's had a little fever this morning and has spent the past few days chewing on his fist (unusual) and drooling (which had never happened before now) and being grumpy all around. I hate it when he's upset and I can't fix the problem. Maybe I'm not thick skinned enough according to most moms but I can't just let him lay there crying indefinitely. I have to at least try to comfort him! No I don't run to him the moment he makes a peep but I also won't let him cry for extended periods of time and not pick him up. I just can't do it- it breaks my heart. I don't pick him up out of frustration because that's just a bad idea, I do it because I think it might help...and usually it does- but not as much with this teething thing. Bleh! So here's hoping today goes better and my little man starts feeling better. Last night I told Scottie I wished that we could go through a couple of weeks of this and have all his teeth come in rather than long bouts with them showing up one at a time. I'm also not too thrilled that he's getting teeth already. I'm nursing...enough said. Also I have heard of all these great teething things you can do for them or give them in the form of food. No can do when he's only 2 1/2 months old! Oh well, such is life. Hopefully our little guy is feeling better soon. I'm seriously missing his smiles and laughter. Thankfully he's happy and smiley and giggly for ten minutes or so when he first wakes up in the morning which carries me through the day. And I snap a few pictures in case it's a really rough day lol. However, I'm so grateful for the opportunity to stay home with him- crying fits and all. It reminds me of a quote that could be tweaked to my situation- the original quote is:
"A bad day fishin' beats a good day workin'."
I echo the sentiment.

1, 2, 3 down at once!
Funny story-
So last friday we were driving from Savannah, GA to Raleigh, NC to start our new job. Scottie was driving and I was in the back seat with G for the 5 hour drive. We stopped to grab lunch and for me to feed the little man and then Scottie was changing him while I ran in to use the restroom. When I came out Scottie had him laying on the back seat but hadn't changed him yet so I was to be the official wipe getter. Anyway, Scottie started changing him and then he started tooting (he has gas from his reflux-poor guy)...and pooing at the same time. Scottie covered him back up with the diaper and I was laughing and trying to make sure nothing got on the seat (which was my spot). Then he started wiping him off again and it happened again. We were DYING laughing. Finally G stopped so Scottie went to give it another shot, pulled out the "used" diaper and thankfully had another down already because more was coming. Anyway, you get the idea here and he went through 3 diapers in one changing and we were both laughing so hard we were in tears! And, most importantly, nothing got on the seat- or on my white pants! :)

oh what a day, what a day!
Dear G,
The past week or so you've decided your once beloved pacifier is not as appealing as it once was. You usually want it when you're dozing off to sleep, but that's about it. Therefore, yesterday I decided that what better opportunity to try to ween you from it? Little did I know you were about it embark on a rough day and I would be rethinking that decision faster than you can say "ahhhahhahhahhh." I don't know for sure but from what people have told me I think there is a slight possibility you may be beginning the glorious stage of teething. You've been grumpier than usual (you're usually such a happy boy when you've had enough sleep) and have been drooly and have developed a new interest in your hands. Who knows if that is actually the cause, or if you've just had a couple rough days but I'm doing everything I can think of to get my happy little boy back.
Yesterday I also decided to make getting you to take regular naps a top priority since you're not so good in that area. It was successful in that you took naps. However, it was unsuccessful in that some of those naps were in my arms since every time I tried to put you down you woke up and freaked out. Well, I guess that's the next step to work on lol.
Another thing I tried to implement yesterday (yep, it was a big day) was more play time by yourself and more tummy time. Now I realize "more" is incredibly vague, but I figured it was the best place to start and I actually did it. I was very proud of both of us- me for leaving you alone to play and not come running when you started getting a little fussy (in my attempts to avoid the all out crying) and you for fussing a little here and there but also playing by yourself on the floor. Granted I did bust out some toys for you to check out and all so you wouldn't be bored but all in all I think it was a success!
Lastly, I tried to get you to take steps to sleep through the night. By that I mean I didn't help right away when you were stirring and fussing (usually once the real fussing starts I jump in- again to avoid the all out screaming that often follows suit) and I only fed you once rather than twice. I know you can go all night (at least 6.5-7+ hours) without eating so I think if you eat quite a bit before bed you'll be good most of the time. I figure it's mostly out of habit and a little help from a mom who didn't know better, so now we can both work on it so we both sleep better! You really did pretty well. You fussed a few times and I sat and listened and when I didn't grab the pacifier for you you started sucking on your fist and went back to sleep. I was proud and a little sad cause my little guy is growing up so much so quickly. I swear it seems like you outgrow an outfit a day even though I know it's not the case. Anyway, hopefully these little changes will mean an even happier little guy, a cleaner house because I get more done during your naps and a well rested mommy!
Also we have been going running every afternoon and you love it! As long as the stroller is moving you're happy and seem to enjoy it. You usually fall asleep eventually but if we stop you wake up within a few minutes every time. I just hope that you continue to like going running with me when we get the actual jogging stroller in a few months and I'm hoping you'll always love being my running buddy!
I love you son and I'm so glad I get to spend my day with you!

"good for you!"
So since I coaxed scottie into agreeing to a 5k I figured I should probably get in shape for it, not to mention getting back into shape (and my clothes) since having G. Anyway, my first day back running I was SO excited since I had to quit so early in my pregnancy and as I was out running I saw April from our ward (short blond hair, primary president, knows some of the hockey guys) and she said "good for you! Our babies would be so proud of us!" since she had had her baby about a month before I had G. It was just what I needed! It has kept me going because he is a huge part of why I'm working so hard! I not only want to keep up with him, I want him to have to keep up with me! So many moms cant keep up with their kids anymore but I want to be out playing with him all the time etc. Well yesterday morning Scottie & I worked out at the gym at our complex but this morning he was too busy so I was trying to talk myself into going running sometime today. Yes, it takes me most of the day to talk myself into it sometimes. I'm the person who sits there thinking, but people are going to stare and thinking, that girl is so slow and out of shape she shouldn't be out here, or wearing that, or doing that etc. You get the idea. However, whenever I pass someone out there who is obviously just starting out or doesn't look like they're in tip top shape I always think "good for you!" and tell them that when possible. Anyway, I finally talked myself into going and a lady said to me "Wow, you are so dedicated! Exercising even with your baby!" And I thought to myself, good for me! :) I can't let having a baby slow me down, it needs to speed me up or this little guy is going to pass me up in no time! I love hearing things like that from people so I thought I would document it for myself so on tough days maybe I would remember it and also for anyone else out there who needs a little extra boost to get out the door. And here is a parting quote for a little extra boost:
"You almost never regret the runs you do, and almost always regret the ones you don't!"
Happy exercising everyone!
"You almost never regret the runs you do, and almost always regret the ones you don't!"
Happy exercising everyone!
little did you know...
Dear Sparky,
I'm sure you didn't realize the profound implications of your, "uhhh...ok" in response to my "could I coax you into running a 5k with me??? :)" At the time you may have thought I might forget about the conversation all together or that you could weasel out of it but now I think about it multiple times a day and remind you of it a few times a week! Before you know it I'm gonna have you running half marathons with me and you're gonna be the one dragging me out of bed for an early morning run. And then it's on to triathalons! Did you ever think one little "uhhh...ok" would unravel into such huge expectations or hopes? hehehe. Yep I've got big plans for us baby! And don't worry they don't all involve the "r" word. Traveling the world, eating crazy foods, dancing and maybe at some point karaoke...ok, probably not that last one- but hey, you never know!
See, this is one of the reasons I fell in love with you babe! You keep up. You want to live every moment just like me- so lets go! I'm pretty sure if we wait we won't have enough time for all the crazy adventures we have in mind, let alone all the ones we have yet to come up with so lets start today. Right this second! Here goes!
And did I mention that I love you? 'Cause I do!

my little man
G,
I absolutely love spending my days with you. You keep things crazy and I never know what to expect but I wouldn't trade it for anything! Lately you've decided that naps aren't your thing so you fight your morning nap for half the day and usually end up being so deliriously tired you don't know what to do with yourself. But I have to admit, part of me loves that too. I love that I can see both myself and your daddy in you. Every time you are trying so hard to not fall asleep I have to laugh because I think you got that fight from me. And every time you go from perfectly fine to "must eat right this second" in 3 seconds flat, I know you got that from your daddy! :)
Sweetpea you are growing up way to quickly! I swear I have to tell myself "he can't _____ unless he gets bigger" multiple times a day- filling in the blank with thinks like learn to ride a bike or throw a baseball. It's so fun to watch you learn so many new things.
You have always been a determined little guy. Before you were born, if anything rested on my stomach you would kick it until it moved.
You LOVE to cuddle...when YOU want to. Otherwise you won't stop wiggling!
You have a love/hate relationship with most of your stuff- pacifier, swing, bouncy seat, etc. There is no sure fire thing that will make you happy every time- which is one reason I'm excited for you to learn to talk so I know what you want THIS time.
You love to be held the majority of the time which I think is cute, but sometimes problematic when I'm trying to make dinner or do the dishes, etc.
You have the cutest smile ever.
You love playing with daddy.
You don't like being alone. When I'm not sitting with you in the back seat I usually have to keep talking to you so you're not sad. Otherwise you usually lose it!
I'm trying to get you to like your car seat by telling you we're going on an adventure and making it sound fun- maybe someday it will actually help!
You have great facial expressions and have since you were born. Even the nurses commented on it in the hospital!
You like your cuddly blanket already. When I put you in your swing at night (which is your bed for now since you can't sleep on your back) you snuggle your cheek on it.
A lot of times when you're falling asleep you peek to make sure I haven't gone anywhere. If I try to leave before you're out cold you cry...and I must admit I think it's adorable.
You love to hold onto my finger and it usually calms you down or helps you go to sleep. The problem is you rarely let go so then I'm kinda stuck- which was probably your plan to begin with!
Most of all my little man, taking care of you is the best job ever and oh the adventures we're going to have!
I love you Sweetpea!

"time to get crackin"
There is a never ending life to do list I have running through my head that sometimes makes it's way to paper. I have so many things I want to do that I often have a profound "time to get crackin'" type moment. Well clearly I've had another one of those moments because here I am. I've decided that as much as I would love to chronicle every moment of our glorious life on here, doing that makes me feel like I'm always behind! Therefore this will probably be more of a random compilation- hope you don't mind!
